Extension of the toll road network in Poland
As early as 1 November 2024, significant changes will take place in the Polish national road network covered by the electronic toll collection system. It will be extended by almost 50% - another 1,600 km of motorways will be added to the current 3,620 km.
Owners of motor vehicles and vehicle combinations with a GVW of more than 3.5t, as well as buses - irrespective of the permitted total weight - will not be able to avoid the toll. The Ministry of Infrastructure's plans for new sections in the e-TOLL system have been known since June this year.
The last time the toll road network in Poland was extended was in 2017. The increased revenue guaranteed by the amended regulation is expected to go to the National Road Fund, which is responsible for the implementation of road investments. In addition, it is expected that the increase in tolls in road transport may translate into improved competitiveness in the railway sector, which is one of the objectives of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
