Tightened controls at the border with Germany

Due to tightened controls at border crossings with Germany, which started on 16 September 2024, delays in the delivery of goods due to long waiting times to cross the border are possible.

We already reported last month on a meeting in Görlitz, where Nancy Faeser, the German Interior Minister, discussed border protection issues with representatives of the Polish Border Guard. Due to the high effectiveness of the controls carried out in combating criminal activity and in reducing illegal immigration, the possibility of extending them was announced.

However, the authorities in Berlin did not stop there, extending the temporary controls to all land border crossings with Germany. It is intended that these will last for at least six months. Thus, more frequent obstructions and more detailed inspections can be anticipated.

The German police have already managed to confirm the start of border controls with Belgium and the Netherlands. Online, there are also reports of the first queues caused by these measures, e.g. at the Dutch-German border in Oldenzaal. It should therefore be borne in mind that the extension and tightening of border controls will affect not only the delay of goods deliveries to Western European countries, but also imports into Poland and the time for drivers to return to our country, negatively affecting the availability of trucks on the market.
